Background on Docebo Reborn

Post by maberdour »

Hi, is there anywhere I can get some background on how Docebo Reborn came about? I didn't realise Docebo had gone closed source, was a bit of a surprise to see what was happening. Am not wishing for dig up past grievances though, so I completely understand if it's all a bit too recent to talk about objectively! But it would be great to understand a bit more about how this all came about!
Thanks,
Mark

Hi maberdour, welcome on board :)

Docebo received a huge financing and decided to turn the software into a cloud service, not supporting anymore the previous OS releases. No grievance, it's only business and marketing, and we respect their choice.

Since many companies are still using old versions and don't wish to move to the new cloud service (wich from what I know doesn't provide any migration solution), we set up this community to allow this people to keep sharing knowledge and help each other.

Just to clarify further: we are not connected with the Docebo company (the company that has created and run the LMS).
We are just consultants and developers with many years of experience with Docebo that didn't want to let the OS version of this excellent LMS die.
We knew somebody out there was looking for this kind of community, but someone had to make the first move. So we did it.

Forgive me if this has been answered somewhere else already...
Is this the last community version we can expect? (No version 4.1.0 for example?)

If so, it seems any new projects should be started on other LMS systems that are still being developed for the future - do you have any recommendations?

thanks

Hello Docebogal,
it's a good chance to clarify this point.

Docebo (the company) will not release any new version, they released the 5.0 premium. You can pay for it (a lot of money) and you have the source code. Modifiable, but not distributable.

We at Elearnit and many other companies and consultants (some write on this forum, but there's many of them who don't) have hundreds of installations and hundreds of thousands users. So, at least, the 4.05 version will continue to be fixed, maintained, updated. Just like it has happened for the last months. New integrations (Joomla, Magento, Drupal) with D.405 are still coming out. You can find them referenced in this community.

So, if you like Docebo, I would keep on opening new projects with it anyway.

Future developments: we cannot say anything as of now, but.... stay tuned. Good surprises are coming in a few months.. ;)
