Verification of Course Certificates
Verification of Course Certificates
1. How do we enable posibility so that employer or anyone else, having received digital certificate from participant (PDF via E-mail or printed PDF) with number or QR-coded URL can verify given certificate for acomplished course (passed by participant) thru LMS dedicated verification webpage or otherwise in reliably way it it exists and if it's valid ?
2. Is this (1) possible via API thru another system ?
3. Is this (1) possible via some kind of plugin ?
4. Majority of FormaLMS competitors have this solution integrated, so that on main page, there is a verification tab, with number of certificate and validate button, which checks internal database of the LMS if such certificcate is genuine and exists or nor.
5. This could be solved via workaround to have a Helpedsk (human operated or VoIP IVR) set-up for certificate number entry via keypad, and voice recorded response, a separate system for certificate validation, but why complicate ?
Curently after finished course, participant gets a certificate which can not be (at least not that I know how) - verified by employer, prospect employer or any other interested party which demand validation.
If this does not exist curently and nobody asked, you may considder this to be a feature request both for :
1) Tab for verification to be put on main page (accessible prior to login)
2) Internal solution for administration of certificates e.g. randoom numbers for certificate ID, or some other feature, such as number only or QR-code only...with certificates maybe also accessible from outside via https://formalmsdomain/cert/verification/xxxxxxnumber
3) Certificate accompaning designators:
1A: PDF with numberID 1B PDF with number ID and QR code 1C PDF with QR code and PDF certified certificate by isser
2A: certificate is valid
2B: certificate is revoked
2C: certificate expired (for certificates that are valid for certain period of time (e.f. Cisco, Microsoft which are valid only for 1 year)
2D: certificate is not publicly accessible
2E: certificate is no longer available, is deleted or changed
2F: certificate is archived, request delivery from archive
3A: certificate PDF is digitally signed by LMS issuer
3B: certificate PDF is digitally signed by 3rd party (via API or separate Digi-cert plugin)
3C: certificate is not digitally signed
SInce FormaLMS is "SCORM"-comliant (SCORM stands for Shareable Content Object Reference Model), this "sharable" certificate option would be nice to have e.g:
User level : Share your certificate via URL - yes / no.
Admin level Sharing of certificate via URL - mandatory override to always yes - yes/no.
That are few ideas we would like to have...if there is a plugin for this...let me know.
Explanation:
Certain schools have legacy systems for keeling old paper documents issued e.g. in XX century, so e.g. if former student or former pupil would like for course score be reprinted or reissued for various reasons, they have to reprint and re-issue new certificate. Instead - they could scan old paper documents into FormaLMS which could be used for legacy certificates external verification, with or without download of PDF.
These are many things to ask a features but would certainly boost customer base if available thru any easy way.
Bloating of database is however now a smart thing to to, putting evertying into "same bucket" to to speak, but some king of solution would be nice to have not just how to put legacy paper certificates into FomaLMS when institution is in transition, but also for new FormaLMS issued certificates for users and participants that do use it from day on on new system.
Sincerely,
