A question about groups

Post by mlapl1 »

Hello

In comparing functionality with moodle, an issue has arisen. Does FormaLMS have student groups?

Let me explain. Let us imagine that students are split into 3 groups, A, B and C but also belong to the same course/class. The idea is that everyone does the same thing in general except for some special instances where groups A, B and C do different things. In other words, everyone has access to the core but also has access to materials specially designed for each group. Does that facility exist in FormaLMS?

Thanks for any information

Andrew

Yes. Maybe you should enable the group menu item in admin menu course module.
To achieve this, go Administration area, then E-Learning / Settings / Manage Menu. Select the edit button within the menu you use in the course, then click the "assign modules to menu item" within "Collaborative area", and assign "Group management" module to the menu item.
Finally you must reassign the menu to the course.

As a followup...

I think I understand how this works - and it is as I had hoped.

I also think I can understand how to do a mass upload of users using CSV files (although I have not yet tried).

HOWEVER, I am not sure I understand how to enrol a user in a course and assign to a course group using CSV. I suppose it depends on either having the data in the correct place or having the correct header.

Ideally, I would like to enrol new users on formalms and *simultaneously* assign them to a course and also a group. Is there an example file somewhere that I could see, or a list of the required headers? Or do you have any advice?

Thanks a lot

You can't do it in forma front-end.
