FormaLMS Capabilities

Post by markmangum »

I have never used FormaLMS before. I have some questions about its capabilities. I am putting together a business plan selling eLearning products to businesses. I would like to combine an open source LMS with a large number of business eLearning courses. I would like to be able to personalize the LMS for each company, branding it with their own logo, color scheme, etc. My question are:

1. Can each company have its own branding - logo, color scheme, and sub-domain?
2. If so how hard is it to set up; how much time is required to brand each site?
3. Can all companies draw from the same library of courses, or does each company need their own copy of each course?
4. Can individual companies have administration rights to personalize or customize a course for them-self and to run their own reports?
5. I would like to include e-commerce capabilities on each site. Could multiple companies use the same e-commerce account or would each site have to have their own.
6. Is there any limit to the number of companies, users, or courses you can have on one FormaLMS install?
7. What is the fasted way to learn FormaLMS well enough to be able to support it for multiple companies.

In summary I just need to know if FormaLMS would be the right platform to provide cloud based LMS services to hundred of companies with thousands of courses, and how hard would it be to administer that? I need to know as soon as possible as I am trying to budget for an LMS and supporting it and need to know what to expect.

Thanks for your time and lending your expertise.

Hi Mark and welcome onboard!

The short answer to most of your questions is "yes". Basically, some of the features available in Forma Lms are not to be found in other Lms, Forma is very corporate-oriented.

Herebelow you can find my detailed answers and comments:

1. Can each company have its own branding - logo, color scheme, and sub-domain? yes, of course
2. If so how hard is it to set up; how much time is required to brand each site? It's not hard at all, viewtopic.php?f=11&t=12065& With this configuration, you will have one installation with multiple URL's and multiple graphical templates. The underlying application will be the same. You will also be able to configure multiple "course catalogs", so that each customer will see its own.
3. Can all companies draw from the same library of courses, or does each company need their own copy of each course? You can actually have it both ways. If you prefer, each company can draw from the same catalog. Or you can easily (one click) copy any course to make it available to a single company. It's mostly a commercial and organizational decision, and it's up to you: technically, you can do as you wish.
4. Can individual companies have administration rights to personalize or customize a course for them-self and to run their own reports? Yes, of course. You just have to set the right permissions for the so-called "administrator" users (the level immediately below the "superadministrator", i.e. you).
5. I would like to include e-commerce capabilities on each site. Could multiple companies use the same e-commerce account or would each site have to have their own. If you plan to use one installation (see above) the e-commerce integration will of cours be only one (it's a PayPal integration, to be more precise). So, you'll only be able to configure one PayPal account as the receiver of the payments. If what you want is every company paying to you, then you already have what you need. If you want your customers to be able to sell their courses to others, then they'll need their own installation.
6. Is there any limit to the number of companies, users, or courses you can have on one FormaLMS install? No
7. What is the fasted way to learn FormaLMS well enough to be able to support it for multiple companies. :-) Well, asking for training, consulting and advice to one or all of Forma's partners..http://formalms.org/about/partners.html - http://formalms.org/contatti-2/view/form.html
