Innovation in Industrial Training: The Case of a Multinational from Northern Italy

Find out how a leading multinational built its academy from the ground up and achieved outstanding results in no time.

A Step Forward in Inter-Company Training

A major manufacturing company, with over a century of history and a global presence of 1,000 employees across three production plants and 24 branches, has decided to implement an e-learning platform to share its know-how worldwide. The main goal was to align the sales network with the company’s values and solutions, ensuring a common language across all branches.

The Platform and Courses

The Academy project took about a year to develop, involving primarily the Marketing team, as the first courses were designed for the sales network and had a technical focus on the company’s products and served industries. Currently, the platform hosts:

  • 5 English-language courses available remotely.
  • 2 live courses, one in Spanish and one in Polish, managed by HQ.
  • 230 registered users, all sales representatives from the 24 branches.

Challenges and Objectives

The Academy was developed to overcome several challenges, including:

  • Knowledge dissemination: Ensuring that all branches adopt a consistent language and communication style aligned with company values.
  • Encouraging training: Overcoming cultural resistance within a sales network composed of employees aged 45 to 60, who are less inclined toward continuous learning than younger generations.
  • Language barriers: Many employees do not speak English fluently, making access to technical courses more challenging.

Implemented Solutions

To encourage participation, several strategies were introduced:

  • Incentive system based on training objectives to motivate platform use.
  • Gamification: Leaderboards powered by algorithms to foster healthy competition among users.
  • SAML integration for automatic user synchronization with their company’s Active Directory.

Results and Impact

More than a year after launch, the platform is actively used by 60% of the target users, with higher participation in English-speaking countries (UK, Australia, South Africa, US), where the culture of continuous learning is more established. These branches are also more inclined to create customized courses independently.

The course satisfaction rate has reached 98%, confirming the value of the initiative.

Future Prospects

The next challenges include:

  • Expanding the platform’s use to the entire company, including production teams.
  • Creating new training content to enhance employees' skills and knowledge.

Thus, the Academy is proving to be a fundamental pillar for the future of corporate training, aiming to transform company culture and make learning a strategic asset for the Group’s growth.

Final Thoughts

The implementation of a well-designed e-learning system, integrating advanced technologies and innovative methodologies, can radically transform how companies approach training. This case demonstrates how even a large company with no previous digital experience can achieve outstanding results, improving both performance and employee satisfaction.
